Method

Even though I teach foreign language in an eclectic way by using ideas found in different instructional methods, I base my teaching on TPR-Storytelling (TPR-S) techniques. TPR-S is a foreign language teaching approach that uses Cooperative Learning activities and concentrates on the development of thorough verbal acquisition. The name is based on TPR (Total Physical Response,) a language learning method developed by  Dr. James Asher in the 60s. According to Asher, "TPR is based on the premise that the human brain has a biological program for acquiring any natural language on earth--including the sign language of the deaf. The process is visible when we observe how infants internalize their first language."  The S (Story telling) was added by Blaine Ray , a teacher from California,  in the 80s as an additional element which has certainly extended the functionality of language learning from commands typical in TPR to total use of the language where the learner can express communication from different perspectives.
