They lived the life. They were our heroes for a time. Maybe they still are. Names like Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings, Whose mamas let them grow up to be cowboys. Great men like Will Rogers and Roy Rogers, Who believed a horse could solve most of a man's problems, 'Cept marriage, of course. Jack Palance, Ben Johnson, and John Wayne Showed us what we wanted cowboys to be. Paladin and the Lone Ranger filled our afternoons, Then faded into the sunset. And our heroes had heroes. Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys scorched a brand in every cowboy. Jack Schaefer illustrated an image That was to become the goal of many. SO while many do not even know one of these names, Deep down they are the truest form of an American Hero. And they will always be my heroes. A salute to all the hard-riding and hard-living Cowboys who through songs, paintings, movies and books helped us to dream. |
